Luta

There is a direct flight from Guam to Luta (also known as Rota)—only 30 miles from the northern point of our island.
Our hosts, John and Lisa picked us up at the airport and took us for a tour of the island.
It truly is the friendliest island. Everybody waves when they pass by, on foot or on wheels—it makes no difference.

 The Bird Sanctuary

A very wet, very beautiful view.

John was showing us how he used to swing from one of the roots of this enormous tree.

A roadside cannon aimed at Wedding Cake Mountain.

We saw bats out during the day. They are having to scavenge more since the Typhoon stripped the trees of blossoms and fruit.
Can you see our little friend hanging from the palms?

Wedding Cake Mountain

Our home for the week.

The view from our balcony.

Nine episodes of a Korean survival show "The Law of the Jungle" were filmed in parts of Rota and Tinian. On Rota, they filmed
at Mochong Beach, Tonga Cave, Old Japanese Cannon site and other locations. They made their own shelters,
fished in the ocean and went free diving. We went to Mochong Beach. We think this was the remains of one of their shelters.

Sunset at our hotel.

We hiked up a river that had several falls.

Our friends Leah and Chad were there too.

In some places the water rushed down a small shaft, almost completely disappearing.

 Aaron enjoyed a shower…

…and a bath.

We took a little detour in the ministry to visit a stone quarry where they used to carve out latte stones.

This is also where I met Chamorro John.

While we were in the ministry, John and Aaron dove.

The crew caught a fish during their dives. We ended up eating part of it at a restaurant later that evening.

Pinatang Park was once a water park right on the shore. It was taken out by a storm and now sits abandoned not far from the Kingdom Hall.

Beyond the park is this lovely swimming spot.

Aaron and I enjoyed searching this beach for sea glass and old Japanese pottery pieces.

This is a deep, natural pool called the Swimming Hole. The congregation invited us here for a BBQ.

Marinated and BBQ'd octopus.

Crab, parrotfish and lobster.

The Sunday before we left was an assembly.

Lunch was enjoyed on the porch.

Rota is a small congregation. Aaron gave a talk.

After the assembly, we walked back to our hotel.

The next morning we flew home.
We enjoyed the island very much—most of all the generous hospitality of the friends.
