Construction is well underway on the South Guam Kingdom Hall. The site preparation began in November and the building work commenced in December. Aaron and I were able to volunteer on one of the first Saturdays.
Aaron was actually involved in the planning stage. When we pulled up to the site he asked me, "Do you like my parking lot?"Being the supportive wife that I am,
I replied, "It's lovely dear!"
Our first task was to help put up the food tent. Randy (above left) was charged with oversight since he was the only 'local' among our small crew. Putting up canopies is a skill learned very young on Guam. Staying out of the sun, if you can help it, is vital to ones survival.
My next task was to help Amy put up the 'kiddy fence'. Hard hats required on the other side! This was good practice for tying rebar. Same tools!
Volunteers (below, left to right):
Veronica, Carla, Becky, Rachel
They're sanitizing for lunch.
Gathering for lunch. The Barrigada congregation fed us. On Saturdays the congregations take turns. During the week South Guam congregation feeds the volunteers.
Val and I sorted this pile of scrap lumber by size to be used for forms and stuff.
Aaron helped tie rebar columns with Dave (above right).
Coconut break! Mmm...mmm, good!
After a long day of hard work in the sun, we were exhausted
AND very dirty! But it was most enjoyable!
Project looks like it is coming along very nicely. They are fun to work on, exhausting, but fun. Not loving the coconut though.:D
