No Glitz

While we'd like you to think Guam is paradise—in some cases it's not all that glamorous!

Building and road maintenance is a rarity.  There are no neighborhood Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CC&Rs).  Practicality and convenience are more important than appearance—no matter what an eyesore it creates.

Notice the attractive containers, at the property line of this home, used for permanent storage (right)Practical?  Yes.  Eyesore?  Yes.
Also notice the staircase that goes nowhere on the right side of the photo.
Poor planning?  I don't know.  Room for expansion?  Maybe.

This apartment complex should be condemned.  The landlord charges an obscene amount for rent and does not maintain the buildings.  During visits we've seen large rats and roaches.  Not to mention, the buildings are overcome by mold and mildew. The families who live here are very poor and cannot afford to expect more from their landlord. On one occasion he threatened a tenant with eviction if she did not pay the rent—despite the fact that he had not fixed a pipe gushing under her kitchen sink for weeks.

Just beyond is the Sharaton and a beautiful cliff that plunges down toward the crystal blue water!  Quite the contrast!

  1. Can't wait to live in the REAL Paradise! So unjust to see some living in such poor conditions while others live in "the lap of luxury"!

  2. Wow, that is really sad. Such a reality check for what seems to be paradise in most photo's.
