Our friends, Joe and Phyllis Flowers have been off-island for a few weeks. While they were gone I was teaching two of her Bible students. When I went to see Lolita for her Bible study she asked if her neighbor Chalcee (pronounced Chelsea) could sit in on the study. "She wants to learn about the Bible", Lolita said. I, of course, invited her to join us. Lolita has been studying for sometime and is somewhat advanced so I asked Lolita if it would be alright to start at the beginning. And that is exactly what we did. We were able to discuss the first 10 paragraphs of our Bible study aid, What Does the Bible Really Teach? Chalcee speaks Ponapean but her English is very good, as is her comprehension. She is 23 and has 4 children (ages 1 to 6). During the first study she was excited to learn that God does not cause the suffering we see in the world today. We had our second study today and she was excited to learn God's name—Jehovah (Ps. 83:18) or in Ponapean—Siohwa (pronounced SEE O WA). It is a joy to help a person understand God's word, the Bible and Chalcee is a delight.

I am sure are preparing for the upcoming the Zone Visit and the arrival of the missionaries and translators who will be coming to Guam. They are working to set up a meeting in Ponapean for a Sunday(talk and Watchtower) hosted by Barrigada. Perhaps any of your Ponapean calls would enjoy attending and meeting more witnesses who speak their language. We are rather excited here that this may stimulate more interest in the Ponapean field there in Guam. Please give our warm Kaselehlie to Chalcee.
ReplyDeleteYes, I heard about that. I will be sure to tell her about it. We have other calls from Pohnpei too. We seem to be finding many who are interested in Bible truths.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good experience!
ReplyDeleteSo glad she continues to be excited about what she's learning. Can't wait to hear your newly acquired language skills.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really neat experience. Thanks for sharing.
