Dave and Chelsea in Chuuk

Dave and Chelsea were recently accepted as construction volunteers by the Guam Branch. Their assignment? As part of a second construction team in Micronesia, they will be working on the Kingdom Hall, Missionary Home and Translation offices on Moen, an island of Chuuk.

Here are a few photos she recently sent me.

Chelsea just looks sweet. She's a pretty tough cookie!

Far right is Khadafey, a newly baptized brother in the Moen Congregation. Becoming one of Jehovah's Witnesses is not an easy feat in Chuuk. Many bible students face harsh family opposition—ridicule and often physical abuse. When he started studying the bible, Khadafey realized he needed to make some changes in his life in order to draw close to God. He overcame many bad habits including smoking, huffing propane, chewing betel nut and misusing alcohol. At first he studied once a week. Then he asked to study twice a week. When that was not enough. He asked to study three times a week. Eventually he was studying the Bible seven days a week and spending much of his free time at the Kingdom Hall—just because he had no better place to be. He is now happily serving Jehovah…and apparently still hanging out at the Kingdom Hall! Chelsea says he's a big help!

Work hard! Play hard! Rest a little! And then get back to work!

In Chelsea's own words: We're doing great, LOVE it here. We go out in service for the first time today. The meeting was awesome! There's only like 11 publishers here and all the little kids were staring at us through the entire meeting. Dave commented in Chuukese and did great. Everyone giggled. The people are so friendly.

Another day: Electricity was out almost all day, good thing we have a generator, but you can't run the aircons and the dryer at the same time. It is definitely hard work, Dave came in and changed at lunch, I thought they were using the hose or something because he was completely drenched head to toe, it was sweat. Ugh. …the heat isn't bad, it's the humidity. It's killer! I think the longer we're here the more we'll get used to it.
