WWII Bomb Unearthed

In Local News

"A large boom, like a thunderclap, broke a two-hour silence in Hagåtña yesterday afternoon, and soon the empty streets began to bustle again.

About 2:20 p.m. yesterday, a military explosive disposal team used a small charge to defuse a 4-foot-long, 350-pound World War II-era bomb, which was uncovered at a construction site next to the Mobil station on Route 4 yesterday morning.

The discovery of the bomb prompted the evacuation of most of Hagåtña, which emptied normally busy office buildings, shut down businesses and diverted traffic away from the island's capital."
