The Botanic Gardens are right in the heart of Cairns. Aaron and I enjoyed meandering along the boardwalk through the swampy jungle and seeing the variety of ferns, trees, flowers and birds. We also delighted in a delicious lunch at the Garden's cafe.
This is the famous, Laughing Kookaburra. It's call sounds like laughter.
In elementary school we sang this song: However, we were only taught the first verse.
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra! Laugh, Kookaburra!
Gay your life must be
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gum drops he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
Leave some there for me
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Counting all the monkeys he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
That's not a monkey that's me
Kookaburra sits on a rusty nail
Gets a boo-boo in his tail
Cry, Kookaburra! Cry, kookaburra!
Oh how life can be
Guarantee: There will be more bird photos.
Awesome! Loved all the unusual flowers. Neat picture of the Kookaburra, with the beetle in its mouth. Looking forward to seeing all the neat birds, that you must of seen. Thanks.
ReplyDeletebeautiful pics! Hmmm....I never heard the part of the song about sitting on the rusty nail....funny!
ReplyDeleteWhat kinds of trees are those?
OY! How's your belly where the pig bit ya? Jahbindi 'n' begorrah, the Pics are a real beaut! Don't go all greenie on us out in the bush mates! Go have bangers and a stubbie at the waterhole (It's your Wally Grout).
ReplyDeleteMay your chooks turn into emus and kick your dunny door down.
Let us know if you get called a devil dodger. Crikey!
Well, stone the flamin' crows, mate! That's a lot of Australian slang.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful pics there are so many unusual plants and trees. We were never taught the last verse of the Kookaburra song--maybe a crying Kookaburra isn't great for 6year olds. BTW, I now fear Australian slang.
