Darlene is trying to learn Chinese. When the Chinese friends say her name, with their accent it sounds like Da Ling. In Chinese, 'da' means big and 'ling' means zero.
There is a Chinese family in our congregation with the last name Yin. In Chinese, Yin is pronounced Ing. That was a little confusing for a while. I could never figure out who James Ing was.
Before we went out in the ministry one morning, Charlie Li was organizing groups to work together. He was encouraging us to use our Bible when we talk to people. In his thick Chinese accent he said, "Sometimes we go to door to door and our heart is bumpy..." He meant "Sometimes when we go from door to door, we are so nervous that we forget to use the Bible." I thought it was cute how he expressed himself.
