Beginning in the mid 1960's, the brown Treesnake decimated Guam's native bird population. They had no experience with such a predator and lacked protective behaviors. Consequently, they were easy prey for these efficient, nocturnal predators. As the snakes spread across the island, the number of snakes began to grow exponentially and bird populations declined.
The government of Guam has since made efforts to rid the island of the Treesnake. There are still birds on the island, although noticeably few. Here are some of the more interesting birds we've spotted.
You may or may not know that Aaron is an avid birder. It is an activity that I too enjoy.
