The Island of Palau

Sunday after the meeting Tom, a single need-greater; Delores, a translator; Steven, Delores's brother who she is raising (mother left home, father died); and Mariko, also a translator took us out to the island Babeldoab—Palau is a series of islands linked by bridges. We hiked to a waterfall—a reasonably challenging hike on a slippery forest path to the river valley and on to the waterfall's base. It had rained recently and so the path was very muddy. To stay out of the mud we balanced on a maze of tree roots. There were parts of the trail that had stairs. Just before we got to the falls we had to walk, thigh-deep through the river. While we gazed at the waterfall and took photos it began to rain. When it rains, it pours. We headed back thru the forest which kept us from getting too wet. Besides, the rain didn't last very long

Photo above: Delores is on the left; Crystine Polk, in the middle, met us in Palau (she's in our congregation in Guam) and Mariko is on the right.

Photo: Steven is far right. Very sweet people!

That's Tom in the river.

  1. The tree roots look like a snake pit...scary. Shelley and I are kind of freaked out by it. Love the staffs...look like you're ready to part waters.
