Long Beach and Beyond

A few days after the second lumpectomy, Aaron and I were feeling a little stir crazy. We decided to check out the California coastline.

Side note:
Stir crazy is a phrase that dates to 1908 according to the Oxford English Dictionary and the online Etymology Dictionary. Used among inmates in prison, it referred to a prisoner who became mentally unbalanced because of prolonged incarceration. The term "stir crazy" is based upon the slang stir to mean prison.

Things got a little prickly along the way.

We stopped in Rancho Palos Verdes at the resort Terranea—stunning! We enjoyed an early lunch at Nelson's "one of the top ten eco-friendly bars in the U.S.…with a view of the Point Vicente Lighthouse and Catalina Island…"

The restaurant is perched right at the edge of the cliff overlooking extensive kelp beds.

A little further down the road, we stopped at the lighthouse. Unfortunately we couldn't get near it.

A little refreshment at Redondo Beach.

Celebration! The following evening, we met Aaron's cousin Tamara at a quaint French restaurant for dinner.
Earlier in the day, we found out from the oncologist that we had a clear margin. No need for further surgery!

A blues concert in the park with our lovely hosts, the McCorkles and friends.

A final dinner before heading back up to Oregon.
Thanks to all the lovely friends that took care of us in Long Beach. We will ever be indebted to you for your love and kindness.
