Turkey Tale

Yes, this is a tale, not a tail! Allow me to set the stage.

Aaron and I recently bought a new microwave. We put the broken one in the new box and placed it next to the dumpster. A few days later, a package appeared on top of the box. It was brand new, wrapped in plastic. We thought it might be a light fixture or some such thing left there by accident by the contractors renovating a downstairs unit.

It was still there a couple days later. Aaron's curiosity got the better of him, so he brought it up to the apartment. We opened the package and started putting the pieces together. With a little online sleuthing, we discovered that it was a burner stand for deep frying a turkey.

Armed with flashlights, Aaron and Curtis went down to the dumpster to look for missing parts. Sure enough the box was there, as were some of the missing pieces and the instruction manual.

The items missing were a large pot with lid, hose and regulator and meat thermometer. This puzzled Aaron and I but not Curtis and Kathleen who know that we have neighbors from Chuuk. According to them, large cooking pots are expensive in Chuuk. Our theory is that the neighbors bought this whole setup just for the pot. The rest was refuse! It's all about perspective, I guess.

We have no intention of deep frying a turkey, though I hear it is delicious. We'll probably use it for dinner at the beach to cook up a seafood boil. We have some wonderful green-lipped mussels from New Zealand here!
