Typhoon Dolphin // May

We encountered our first typhoon May 15, 2015. For those who experienced Pongsona in 2002, it wasn't much to speak of, but it was the first to hit Guam in the 6 years we've been here.

We brought everything in off the balconies, closed our shutters, filled our tubs with water, made sure we had food, water and supplies—and then hunkered down, listened to the wind howl and the rain pelt the shutters.

It was all fun and games until the electricity went out. Well, that was fun too, for awhile. We lost power Friday night. It wasn't restored until Monday night—76 hours later. It was hot and the food in our fridge was spoiled!

We learned some lessons though! And are much better prepared for the next typhoon!

After the electricity went out, we played cards and enjoyed a glass of wine.

Just before our power was restored, we had resorted to sticking 

our feet into a tub of cool water out on the balcony, just to cool off!

We had sustained winds of 109 mph.

After the storm and before the power came back on, 

we sought refuge in a coffee shop and brewpub.

Not to scare you, but this is what things look like now, July 5, 2015.

We're currently experiencing a tropical storm. Winds are 45-50 mph. Not serious. Just super wet.

We are still in a typhoon watch but it looks like this will pass.
