Pohnpei { Day Eight } and { Day Nine }

Satoko met us at the Kingdom Hall to take us out in the ministry. We were looking forward to experiencing "the real island ministry" and we did! We traveled out a bit away from "town" to see how the people really live but before doing that we stopped by the Library to meet Challcee's mom. Challcee is one of my Bible students on Guam. You may remember her from past posts—First Ponapean Meeting on Guam and Second Ponapean Meeting on Guam.

She didn't know we were coming, nor had we ever met before but she was excited to meet a friend of her daughter. Pohnpeians can be a bit reserved so we were surprised when she hugged us several times.

This was one of the highlights of the trip! Truly!

There is one lane on the island planted with these beautiful Eucalyptus trees. They are not native.

We stopped at a river and noticed some people washing their clothes on the rocks.

Satoko took me to meet one of her Bible students. We traversed a meandering path thru the jungle—in Oregon we would call it a deer trail. Then we crossed two small creeks, stepping from stone to stone. On the other side of the creeks, the jungle opened up into a clearing. Satoko called out and this young girl came down from a shack on the hill. This is the experience we were looking for.

That evening we drove out to Nett Point (pronounced NECH) for BBQ and association with friends from the congregation.

{ Refreshed and happy, we headed home the next day }

Quite a number of friends met us at the airport to send us off with gifts of flower and shell leis.
