Downtown Auckland

New Zealand

Aaron and I ventured out to see a little of Auckland. First off, we enjoyed a coffee at Starbucks. The first in over a year. What a treat!

We had a hard time finding parking and during the process noticed that pedestrians all walk at once—some diagonally across the intersection! Once we parked, we tried it ourselves.

We went to the top of Sky Tower—the tallest man-made structure in New Zealand with views of up to 52 miles in every direction. The Sky Deck is 722 feet from the ground and Sky Tower is as tall as 37 buses laid end-to-end.

We did not do the Sky Walk 360 (above left) or the Sky Jump! That's just crazy! I did stand on a window that looked down on the street (above right). Made me feel a little queasy and I'm not afraid of heights.

This is the Sky Tower from the ground. It was a beautiful Spring day in the city of Auckland. Felt a lot like Portland. We also took in a couple breweries and enjoyed lunch while we were downtown.

Mmmm! Beer!

  3. Yikes, those heights made me a bit queasy from the safety of my comfy couch right here! I love diagonal street crossings and have enjoyed them in downtown San Francisco. It's the best way to move lots of people when they outnumber the cars!
