Skyrail Rainforest Cableway

Australia

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is a gondola starting in Cairns that lifts you up above the rainforest canopy into Kuranda village. We enjoyed sweeping views over Cairns, Eucalypt woodlands, and vine-clad rainforest. There are two stops along the way where you can get out and hike around in the forest. Among the vegetation we saw Elkhorn, Staghorn, Basket and Bird's Nest Ferns; large Kauri Pines; a large Banyan; and several Alexandra Palms. My personal favorite was the Cooper's Tree Ferns. On the last stop before pulling into Kuranda was Barron Falls.

In Kuranda, we had lunch at the Irish Pub, tooled around in the tourist shops and enjoyed spotting and identifying birds.

  1. Oh boy, that made me a little weak in the knees, but the scenery was beautiful. The waterfalls were really neat. Not sure if you did it on purpose Christy, but the one picture of you in the Banyon Tree, you looked like a model, very cool!!!:) Thanks for the tour and adventure.

  2. Looks like you are in the middle of the bloody woop-woop. The forest is absolutely beautiful! I love the big fern/tree. You guys are showing more toe than a Roman sandle to ride that tram.
Makes me want to go to Australia now!
Seen any red back spiders yet?

  3. Thanks Cindy, thought those were vines. The whole area is amazing. Good thing we've had recent counsel on envy. Thanks for letting us come along.
